2013 grand final 1

Welcome to the Glebe District Hockey Club. We think Glebe is Sydney's premier hockey club with a long history of success and a strong club spirit. We value FAMILY; EQUALITY; COMMITMENT; CONTRIBUTION.

No other club in Sydney has as many homegrown juniors playing in the senior grades. Our First Grade Mens team has won three premierships in the last seven years and nearly all players were Glebe Juniors. Although we pride ourselves on the support and nurturing of players at club level, many have gone on to higher state & national honours including representing Australia at the Olympic Games.

Glebe is one of the oldest hockey clubs in Sydney and will be celebrating its 87th year in 2017. Last year, the club fielded 5 Mens and 5 Women's teams in Sydney senior competitions, and 11 Junior teams from U/9 to U/17. The club also caters for the younger players with our popular Minkey program where you can 'hook in2hockey'. Minkey runs each Saturday morning attracting kids as young as three years old! Stage 1 minkey generally caters for kids under 7 emphasising fun and participation while stage 2 caters for kids under 9 emphasising fun and an introduction to modified competition.

U11's and Minkeys will be using HNSW's new Joey ball which is softer than a regular hockey ball - U11's will also be playing half field games with fewer players, allowing every player more touches of the ball and increased fitness while being part of a team.

In 2017 we are proud to welcome back returning families, new families and our 150 or so junior players who will be registering with us. We are extremely proud of our 28 2016/17 juniors who are also playing senior hockey this year- at Glebe we encourage sport for life.

The top line rules to help guide umpires, coaches and players are:

  • to qualify for finals players must have played 50% of all round games and 3 of the last 5 matches
  • on long corners, the ball will be played from the 25 in line with where the ball went over the back line - ball still has to travel 5 yards before entering the circle
  • free hit to attackers near the circle - all players have to be 5 yards away and ball still needs to travel 5 before entering the circle
  • green cards will be a 2 minute suspension
  • in time draws and points tables will be available centrally through the SEHA website and we will arrange for a link to be posted on the Glebe website
