When you think of fundraising you think about selling raffle tickets or chocolates or hosting events. Our Club needs fundraising money to ensure we survive, to ensure we can continue to offer opportunities for our juniors, players, coaches and officials. Instead of selling raffle tickets or chocolates – please donate to the Arthur Stubbs Foundation. This is a long term initiative to help our young people achieve their sporting dreams regardless of their age, skill level or experience. All donations over $2 are tax deductable and what better way to finish off this financial year than by giving generously to our great Club. It doesn’t have to be a huge amount and there are options for a recurring weekly or fortnightly donation for as little as $5 – if we all give what we can spare, it will make a massive difference at a grass roots level. Let’s come together, our club needs you. Donation link in profile. #glebefamily #glebehockey #sydneyhockey #hockeynsw #innerwest
We didn’t come away with the trophy but we played with plenty of heart. This weeks @saintjohnespresso player of the round is Aleks Manou from 1st grade – well done, Aleks. #glebehockey #glebefamily #innerwest #glebe

Harry Wark Snr was a member of the GDHC from 1947 until his death in 2002. He played 756 games for the Club, was Club Captain from 1954 – 1957 and in 1961, was elected life member in 1964 and was its Patron for many years. He and his brother Ken played in the Club’s First Grade team that dominated the Sydney First Grade competition of the late 1940’s, 50’s and early 60’s. This team won 13 First Grade premierships in 17 years. Harry was very fast with a powerful and accurate shot for goal. He hit 226 goals between 1947 and 1959 alone. Harry retired from playing in 1985 at the age of 65 when the selection panel at the time had to stop picking him. Harry’s wife and two sons are Life Members of the GDHC and all eight grandchildren have played the game. Three of his great-grandchildren currently play Minkey. Determination, dedication and discipline were Harry’s basic tenets in hockey and in life. His contribution to the administration and social life of Glebe has been enormous and greatly appreciated by all who have passed through the Club’s ranks. ⠀
This Saturday we go head to head with Briars for the Wark Trevenar Trophy – it’s a great club day. Games start at Cintra from 12:30pm. ⠀

Arthur Stubbs Foundation launch is on TONIGHT – see you at the clubhouse. #glebefamily #glebehockey
The Arthur Stubbs Foundation launch at the Clubhouse, Wednesday 16th May,
What is the Arthur Stubbs Foundation?
As you know, the Glebe District Hockey Club has a long history of encouraging a
lifelong enjoyment of hockey through its commitment to our junior players. To maintain this commitment and
to ensure our future growth, we need an income stream to provide a diversity of development opportunities
for our players, coaches and officials at all levels from beginners to elite.
The Club has registered the Arthur Stubbs Foundation with the Australian Sports
Foundation as a way to provide this long term income stream.
Why do we need it? What’s changed about hockey?
Once upon a time in our Club’s history, when we needed cash for junior
equipment, money to support our young rep players, or to buy new uniforms or to replace equipment at the
Clubhouse, we’d rally the troops and sell raffle tickets at the pub on a Friday
night, or deliver phone books, or sell chocolates, or include a levy in
our senior fees.
Our Club now has 165 kids registered to play junior hockey. Our heartland
ground, Jubilee Oval is closed more often than not so our kids struggle to have sufficient access to a ground for
training. We’ve had to think outside the square to overcome some of these problems and the bottom line is
cost. $900 for a junior goalkeeping kit; $5400 for training costs at Camperdown Tennis Centre and with senior
fees at an all time high increased fees mean people choose not to play at all.
What hasn’t changed at Glebe?
While there is a lot about the game that has changed and there are different
demands on families these days, what hasn’t changed is the commitment of our Glebe family to continue to
promote and foster the game we love in the Club we love. Our members love playing hockey and they love
playing for Glebe. We are still committed to investing in our young people from Minkey to our Under 17s
chasing their dreams in rep teams and our senior ranks. And we’re still committed to encouraging and
supporting one another on and off the field as the Glebe family has always done.
Why do we need you?
We need your support to help us spread the word about the Arthur Stubbs
Foundation to people in your networks who might be looking for ways to make a 100% tax deductible
donation to a very worthy cause – our juniors and our future as an inner city hockey club. Donations of $2 and
over can be claimed at tax time. Why not come and join us at the launch and find out a little more about the
Arthur Stubbs Foundation and how it will make a difference to us. We’d love to see you under the arches,
back at Glebe.
You win games with basics. #glebehockeywisdom #wednesdaywisdom #glebehockey #glebefamily
We invite all supporters and friends of the #glebefamily to join us at Jubilee Oval this Wednesday for the launch of the Arthur Stubbs Foundation at 6:30pm. Our Club needs you – let’s secure its future. #glebehockey #backtoglebe #hockeynsw #sydneyhockey #innerwest #glebe #hockeyaustralia
It was cold and wet but our supporters were out in force and the weekend was filled with lots of club spirit and plenty of good hockey. #glebefamily #glebehockey
This week marked @lauraschmacks 100th game. The night was cold and wet but it did not deter the support from the sidelines for Laura. And those supporters were rewarded because Laura played her heart out running down ball after ball in a tight match between Glebe and Western Districts – ending with a 8 – 4 loss. While Laura has played with her trademark determination in all 100 of those games, she is also the driving force behind all our women players taking the field each week in such organised fashion. Congratulations Laura and thank you on behalf of 94 Glebe women – we are very proud of you. She also took away this weeks @saintjohnespresso player of the round. What a way to cap off your 100 games. #glebefamily #glebehockey #glebe
Best of luck from your Glebe family to our boys and officials playing in the U18 Boys Div 3 Grand Final this afternoon. They represent the wonderful quiet achievers of Glebe, with great commitment across juniors and seniors, contributing on the field and in umpiring and coaching. Congratulations to Dean, Oliver, Lewis, Matt, Cameron and Liz. #glebefamily #glebehockey
Our future is bright – thanks @jdhockey01 for supporting our juniors as they chase their hockey dreams. Big smiles from our minkey players showing off their new JDH sticks this morning. Don’t forget our #glebefamily gets 25% off JDH products – if you haven’t received the code, let us know and we’ll shoot it through. #glebehockey #teamjdh @jamiedwyer01
Round 2 for our SEHA Juniors is complete. Well done to all our kids who played hard in some pretty cold conditions. Perri, from our U15 Strikers knew exactly how to keep warm!! Good job goalie!! Hope to see all our Glebe family at the Harold Park Hotel tonight from 6pm. #glebefamily #glebehockey

The mighty all girl half line of Coralie, Billy and Molly took the U13A Redbacks to a convincing win. Congratulations Billy who was Player of the Match. #glebehockey #glebefamily
All Glebe Juniors and their families are very welcome to join the fun at the Harold Park Hotel on Saturday 12 May from 6:00pm. No RSVP required. Just come along and have a laugh. #glebefamily #glebejuniorhockey
How many of these junior players went on to play senior hockey for Glebe, for NSW, for Australia? One of our Club aims is to ensure our junior players are given every opportunity to achieve their hockey goals. To help us continue to offer all the support our juniors need we have established the Arthur Stubbs Foundation. Please join us for the launch at Jubilee Oval, Wednesday 16th May at 6:30pm. #glebehockey #glebefamily #glebehockeythrowback #throwbackthursday
We’re all in it together. 🏑 #glebehockeywisdom #wednesdaywisdom #glebehockey #glebefamily
