Policy & Behaviour
Glebe Hockey (GDHC) adopts all policies and procedures issued by Hockey NSW (HNSW) and Hockey Australia (HA).
Through registration all players and parents agree to follow the Glebe District Hockey Club Terms and Conditions of Player Membership, and all policies & procedures issued by HNSW/HA. Players are expected to familiarise themselves with the overall policy framework.
Players and parents of juniors are expected to uphold basic standards of behaviour, on and off the field, related to hockey on social media, and at, before and after GDHC or NSW Hockey events. Failure to follow the code of conduct, the national integrity framework and the Safe Hockey, Safe Kids code has the effect of bringing complaints and sanctions against individuals and possibly GDHC, but also tarnishes the good name of GDHC, HNSW and the individuals. Therefore a condition of membership of our club is that the following documents and policies are at a minimum read, understand and followed:
Glebe District Hockey Club Terms and Conditions of Player Membership
The National Integrity Framework
Child Safety
Keeping our juniors safe is a core part of Glebe’s values - Family. Under the Child Safety Standards issued by the NSW Government Office of Children’s Guardian (OGC) we are required to:
- keep child safety at front of mind, not just keeping kids physically safe, but mentally safe as well;
- consider not just what is happening within the hockey environment, but if there is anything that concerns us about what a child might be experiencing at home, school or other, that may indicate grooming or some kind of abuse is occurring. We cannot ignore signs that a child is experiencing verbal, emotional or physical abuse, just because it isn’t happening on or near the pitch; and
- ensure working with childrens' checks (WWCC’s) are obtained and verified by us before volunteers commence working with children.
Hockey Australia has developed a significant number of materials to support us in protecting children in Hockey. Registration with the GDHC will require volunteers, players and parents to familiarise themselves with Child Safe materials.
Reporting a Concern around Child Safety
This form should be used for concerns around child safety. This should also be addressed to the Administration Director at [email protected]. Depending on the nature of the matter, consideration should be given to going straight to Child Protection or the Police.
Complaints & Disputes
Sometimes we might see, hear or experience behaviour that we don’t believe has a place in hockey. Or we might disagree with decisions made by the coach, manager, club, Association or by an umpire on the field. When you consider a HNSW policy has been breached:
- In the first instance players (or parents) should speak with their coach or manager.
- If the matter cannot be resolved by the coach or manager then the relevant Director should be approached to assist in resolving the matter, for example for a Juniors matter, the Juniors Director should be approached.
- If the matter cannot be resolved by the relevant Director, then the Club President should be approached.
- Where the matter cannot be resolved with the assistance of the Club President then the HNSW Complaint & Dispute process should be read and followed. Complaints under this policy should be addressed to the Administration Director at [email protected]
